Ocean Renewable Energy – Powering a Blue Economy
Our August COAST Talk will provide a high level overview of the development of Ocean Renewable Energy to power the Blue Economy, as part of enabling ocean economic development activities in Canada.

The presentations and discussions will be of interest to ocean tech companies, other BC based marine companies, as well as university and government personnel.

Attendees will benefit from identifying opportunities for their organizations in the rapidly emerging Ocean Renewable Energy sector, in British Columbia, other parts of Canada and through international exports.

You’ll hear from:

Elisa Obermann, Executive Director of Marine Renewables Canada, a national industry association aligning industry, academia and government to ensure that Canada is a leader in providing marine renewable energy solutions to a world market. Elisa will present an overview of the development of Marine Renewable Energy as part of the emerging Blue Economy and moderate the Q&A.
John Wright, Executive Director of Business Development of Northland Power, a Canadian power producer dedicated to developing, building, owning and operating clean and green global power infrastructure assets around the world. John will discuss offshore wind energy in Canada, including the Oceanic Wind project in Hecate Strait, British Columbia.
Dr. Brad Buckham, Professor, Mechanical Engineering, University of Victoria, and the Co-Director of the West Coast Wave Initiative. Brad will present the opportunities and engineering challenges for the conversion of ocean wave energy off Vancouver Island into electricity production, and its integration into the BC and Western Canada’s electrical grids.
Following the presentations, the panelists will respond to questions from the moderator and audience.

Please note that a second COAST Talks session will address “Tidal Energy Innovations” on Oct. 20, 2021.
