Ocean Climate Solutions

Without our Ocean, Canada will not meet its net zero targets.

The High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy updated a report in the fall of 2023 that shows up to 35 per cent of emissions reduction required by 2050 can be achieved by the ocean. The OSC is actively accelerating innovative solutions across ocean sectors for the health of our planet while creating opportunities for communities and workers in Canada.

Ocean technologies in areas such as robotics, communications, renewable energy technologies, batteries, biotechnology and genomics, and digital twins have the potential to grow to $13 billion in Canada. This combined with the global demand and acceleration of made-in-Canada climate-focused ocean technology solutions, there is a $20 billion ambition for ocean technology as a whole by 2035.

Through Ambition 2035, Canada’s Ocean Supercluster is hosting focused roundtable discussions, convening key stakeholders, and helping build partnerships to deliver projects and solutions critical to helping tackle climate change, adaption, and community resilience.
